Accessibility Statement

Last updated: 18 August 2026

Blue Leaf Journal is written for women who are already carrying enough friction. The site itself should not add to it.

Our aim

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA — the standard used across most reputable publishing and government sites. That means content that works with screen readers and keyboard-only navigation, text that resizes cleanly in the browser, and colour contrast that reads in daylight and low light alike.

What we do

  • Build on a standard, actively maintained WordPress theme rather than custom code that can silently break accessibility.
  • Write descriptive alt text for images that carry meaning, and mark purely decorative images as decorative.
  • Use real heading structure (H1, H2, H3) rather than bold text standing in for a heading, so a screen reader can navigate an article the way a sighted reader scans one.
  • Keep body text at a size and contrast that doesn’t require strain, in short paragraphs rather than unbroken blocks.
  • Avoid flashing or auto-playing media.

Where we’re not there yet

This is an ongoing effort, not a finished state. If a specific page, image, or interactive element — including the Quiet Audit — doesn’t work well with your screen reader, magnification software, or keyboard navigation, we want to know. That’s a direct signal of what to fix next, not a complaint we’d rather not hear.

Tell us

Email norawhitfield@blueleafjournal.com or WhatsApp +44 7517 696867 with the page and what happened. We’ll acknowledge it and fix what we reasonably can.
