The short version
Blue Leaf Journal explains mechanisms. It does not practise medicine. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a treatment plan, or a substitute for a conversation with your doctor — and nowhere on this site will you be told to stop, start or change a medication.
What this site is not
The writing here is general information for adults. It cannot know your history, your bloods, your medications or what your body has been doing for the last six months, and no article can be adjusted to fit you the way a clinician can adjust to you.
Reading an article does not create a doctor-patient or therapeutic relationship of any kind.
Please stop reading and get medical help if you have chest pain, sudden severe headache, weakness on one side, breathlessness at rest, unexplained bleeding after menopause, a breast change, or any symptom that frightens you. In the US: 911 for an emergency, and 988 reaches the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at any hour, by call or text. In the UK: 999 for an emergency, 111 when it is urgent but not an emergency, and Samaritans answer at any hour on 116 123.
Who writes it
Blue Leaf Journal is founded and published by Tomasz Nowak, who is not a clinician and does not present as one. He is responsible for everything published here.
Articles appear under three editorial names, one for each desk: Nora Whitfield on the body, Jo Brennan on mind and workload, and Miriam Alderton on the evidence reviews. They are the journal’s bylines, not three separate people. None of them carries a degree, an institution or a former employer, because a credential is the easiest thing on a page like this to invent. We say all of it here rather than leave you to work it out.
The absence of a clinical credential is exactly why the sourcing rules below are strict.
How articles are sourced
- Claims about physiology, hormones, sleep, mood or cognition are attached to a named source, and the source is linked so you can check it yourself.
- Preference order: systematic reviews and meta-analyses; primary research in peer-reviewed journals; clinical guidance from bodies such as NICE, the NHS, the Menopause Society and equivalent national bodies; then everything else.
- We do not cite press releases, supplement companies, single anecdotes, or a newspaper’s summary of a study when the study itself can be read.
- Where the evidence is genuinely unsettled, the article says so instead of picking the more satisfying side.
- Where something is an interpretation rather than a finding, it is written as an interpretation.
How we link our sources
Every named researcher, institution or public figure cited in an article is linked to their own public profile wherever one exists and can be verified: their university or employer page, PubMed, Google Scholar, ResearchGate, ORCID, a personal website, published books, and public professional profiles such as LinkedIn or X. The point is not decoration. It lets you check who is actually behind a claim, in one click, without taking our word for it.
Where a cited researcher has died, the article says so and links only to legacy or memorial sources, never a profile presented as current. Where no public profile could be verified, none is invented.
How articles are produced
Articles are researched, drafted and edited with software assistance, under human editorial control. Every claim, figure and citation is checked against the source before publication, and a person decides what ships. We name this because a site that asks you to trust its sourcing should not be vague about its process.
Corrections and updates
Articles carry the date they were last reviewed. When something is wrong it gets corrected rather than quietly deleted, and material corrections are noted on the page with the date.
If you find an error, write to norawhitfield@blueleafjournal.com or WhatsApp +44 7517 696867. Corrections from readers are treated as a favour, not a complaint.
How this site is funded
Blue Leaf Journal is funded by the products it sells — written materials, at fixed prices, listed in plain digits.
There is no advertising on this site. No article is sponsored, and nobody pays to be mentioned or reviewed. If affiliate links are ever used, they will be labelled as such on the page where they appear, and they will never change what a recommendation says.
